Ciele Beau is an abstract painter, whose practise is largely focused on a unique condition she has called synesthesia. Synesthesia is a neurological condition that mixes up sensory information in the brain, causing one sensory pathway to involuntary stimulate another. For example, when Ciele hears music, she feels colour and sees shape!
Using this experience, she creates paintings that aim to convey her sound-to-colour synesthesia through two stylistic methods. Her ‘Colour Frequency’ method translates sheet music into colour, showcasing the song from start to finish on the canvas, in time, and in colour. Her second method is called ‘Chromatic Forms’ which is a more free-flow abstract iteration, allowing her to express both the colours she feels and shapes she sees in a piece of music. Both styles are represented in her solo show “DONUT FORGET ME”.
Sound To Colour Vol 3. “DONUT FORGET ME” is a tasty assortment of existing works in Ciele’s collection based on songs about the desire to be needed, and remembered.
